Best AI prompts for job seekers

Untested prompts. These are starting points, not rated results. We have not scored them, and AI output can be wrong. Check every figure and claim yourself.

Prompts for CVs, cover letters and interview practice. Our resume tool ratings found some tools invent skills you do not have, so the first prompt is built to stop that.

1. Tailor a resume honestly (ours)

Here is my resume and a job ad. Rewrite my bullet points to match the ad, but only using experience that is in my resume. Never add skills, tools, numbers or results I have not listed. Then give me a table of the ad's key requirements, whether my resume shows each one (yes / partly / no), and a question I could answer to strengthen each gap.

2. Mock interview (prompts.chat)

Our note: replace the position with your target role.

I want you to act as an interviewer. I will be the candidate and you will ask me the interview questions for the ${Position:Software Developer} position. I want you to only reply as the interviewer. Do not write all the conversation at once. I want you to only do the interview with me. Ask me the questions and wait for my answers. Do not write explanations. Ask me the questions one by one like an interviewer does and wait for my answers.

My first sentence is "Hi"

3. Cover letter (prompts.chat)

Our note: swap the example details for your own and remove anything that is not true of you.

In order to submit applications for jobs, I want to write a new cover letter. Please compose a cover letter describing my technical skills. I've been working with web technology for two years. I've worked as a frontend developer for 8 months. I've grown by employing some tools. These include [...Tech Stack], and so on. I wish to develop my full-stack development skills. I desire to lead a T-shaped existence. Can you write a cover letter for a job application about myself?

4. Career counsellor (prompts.chat)

I want you to act as a career counselor. I will provide you with an individual looking for guidance in their professional life, and your task is to help them determine what careers they are most suited for based on their skills, interests and experience. You should also conduct research into the various options available, explain the job market trends in different industries and advice on which qualifications would be beneficial for pursuing particular fields. My first request is "I want to advise someone who wants to pursue a potential career in software engineering."
